Ready to use Glucose drink for diabetes tolerance testing
Adheres to WHO guidelines
GlucosePro is a primary method for testing for Diabetes Mellitus, Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) and Impaired Fasting
Glucose (IFG) – diagnostics and is safe to use in pregnancy and with breast feeding mothers.
An early diagnosis can lead to improved #patientoutcomes
GlucosePro is a cost-efficient and ready to use oral glucose solution, designed for use in glucose tolerance testing to screen for diabetes. It contains 75g of pure glucose, expressed as anhydrous glucose, which meets all WHO requirements for oral glucose tolerance testing and is ideal for use by GP’s and healthcare settings. GlucosePro includes glucose monohydrates, which the body can metabolise immediately as energy and which prevents the glycogen storage from emptying.
How GlucosePro works
Glucose Tolerance Testing (GTT), also referred to as the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT), is a method which can help to diagnose instances of diabetes mellitus or insulin resistance. The test is a more substantial indicator of diabetes than finger prick testing and is used to determine whether the body has difficulty metabolising intake of sugar/carbohydrate.
The patient is asked to take the GlucosePro drink, and their blood glucose level is measured before and at intervals after the sugary drink is taken.
This can be a useful test in helping to diagnose; pre-diabetes, gestational diabetes in pregnancy, insulin resistance and/or reactive hypoglycaemia.
How GlucosePro helps
Having access to accurate results allows for quick treatment decisions to be made, which could be crucial when dealing with suspected diabetes.
There are 3.9 million people who have been diagnosed with diabetes in the UK (2019). It is estimated that there are up to half a million more people in the UK who have diabetes but have not been diagnosed.
If diabetes is not well managed, it is associated with serious complications including heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney disease, nerve damage and amputations leading to disability and premature mortality. There is also a substantial financial cost to diabetes care as well as costs to the lives of people with diabetes.
How to use the GlucosePro oral glucose tolerance test.
GlucosePro is easy to use:
Adults: Before the test the glucose level is measured with a glucose meter (P-Gluk-O). After measuring the glucose level, the patient should drink the GlucosePro. The plasma glucose samples (P -Gluk) should be taken after 0 and 2 hours.
Children: Before the test the child’s base glucose level is measured with a glucose meter (P-Gluk-O). After measuring
the base glucose level, the child should drink GlucosePro at a rate of 1.75g/weight kg, regardless of the age of the child,
up to a maximum amount of 75g of glucose. The plasma glucose readings (P-Gluk) are taken after 0 hours and 2 hours.
