Lepzi® PLGF Test
LEPZI® PLGF Test is a next generation Point-of-Care test for Placental Growth Factor (PLGF) that can be performed directly from whole blood, in just 15 minutes. No centrifuging required.
Designed for use with EDTA-anticoagulated whole blood or plasma samples, the Lepzi PLGF test offers healthcare professionals a valuable tool for diagnosis and prognosis of pre-eclampsia. The LEPZI PLGF test demonstrates high test performance for diagnosis of pre-eclampsia, comparable to NICE recommended PLGF tests.
It serves as a critical point-of-care diagnostic tool for healthcare professionals, aiding in the early detection of preterm pre-eclampsia in pregnant women between 20-37 weeks of gestation.
Product Overview
Lepzi PLGF Test: Enhanced Prognosis and Diagnosis of Preterm Pre-Eclampsia
The Need in Pre-Eclampsia diagnosis
In cases of pre-eclampsia, Placental Growth Factor (PLGF) levels decrease significantly. Methods for diagnosis include blood pressure monitoring and urine tests for protein, which are non specific and ineffective at determining risk. Placental Growth Factor (PLGF) is a highly specific test for pre-eclampsia diagnosis and is recommended by NICE guidelines to assist healthcare professionals in patients with suspected preterm pre-eclampsia between 20 and 37 weeks gestation. Early diagnosis allows for timely risk stratification, effective patient management and ensuring better outcomes for both mother and baby.

How Lepzi® PLGF Test works
The PLGF Test is a fluorescence immunoassay designed for the quantitative detection of Placental Growth Factor (PLGF) in EDTA-anticoagulated whole blood or plasma samples. It provides healthcare professionals with a fast and reliable tool for assessing pre-eclampsia risk in pregnant women.
How LEPZI® PLGF Test Helps
Pre-eclampsia is a serious pregnancy complication linked to placental issues, characterised by high blood pressure and protein in the urine. Symptoms include headaches, visual disturbances, abdominal pain, swelling, and low urine output. If left undiagnosed or untreated, it can lead to severe complications such as eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, stroke, or organ failure. It also increases the risk of placental abruption, growth restriction, or premature birth for the baby. Prompt diagnosis and monitoring are essential to prevent these risks.
Placental Growth Factor (PLGF) is a protein produced by the placenta and is typically present at high levels during a normal pregnancy. However, in cases of pre-eclampsia, the expression of soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1) increases, which binds to circulating PLGF, leading to a significant reduction in PLGF levels. Pregnant women with pre-eclampsia have notably lower PLGF levels compared to those with a healthy pregnancy at the same gestational age, with levels being even lower in severe cases compared to mild pre-eclampsia.
PLGF testing serves as a valuable tool in assisting the diagnosis of preterm pre-eclampsia in women who present with signs but no symptoms of the condition between 20 and 37 weeks of gestation.
How to use the Lepzi® PLGF Test
All it takes to run a test is a one-step transfer of blood or plasma specimen to the LEPZI test cartridge followed by cartridge scanning inside a portable fluorescence reader.
Step 1
Step 1: 200μl whole blood added to cartridge
Step 2
Step 2: Cartridge Inserted into Lepzi Reader
Step 3
Step 3: Read results on-screen, or press 'print' for a hard copy
